In 2012 I was diagnosed with stage 3 grade 3 breast cancer. With 2 small children only 1 and 3 year old this was terrifying. After surgery, chemo, radiotherapy and 10 years of hormone therapy, I consider myself extremely lucky. I got a second chance.

During my treatment Macmillan filled the essential gap between our courageous and desperately under resourced NHS and the reality of patients' lives who are dealing with cancer. Whether it was the nurses and out of hours drop-in, or simply a sofa and cup of tea after treatment - they were there, and they understood.

The drive to complete the Hike is my friends and family who have been through cancer and honouring those who didn't get the second chance by living life well, volunteering, making our lives count. This is dedicated to Mum.
