I'm making strides for our senses for SmellTaste

Making Strides for our Senses
Campaign by SmellTaste (RCN 1175553)
We’re aiming to raise £10,000 as part of our 50 Ways to Raise £50k, and together we can do it, one mile at a time. Our plan is to collectively cover 5000 miles – roughly five times the distance between the smell and taste clinics we work with.

Story

I am doing my bit by setting a personal challenge of completing 120 miles and raising £250 towards the total by 31st October.

Now, I won’t be doing this on my own. I have volunteered my horse Chester to help. He’s 28 and still enjoys a short ride along our lovely bridleways. My plan is to do a mix of riding Chester and walking.

But this isn’t just about clocking up the miles, it’s about raising vital funds so that SmellTaste can continue their work, grow their reach, and support even more people living with smell and taste impairments.

I volunteer for SmellTaste by raising awareness of smell and taste impairments and explaining what the charity does. I do this via a talk which I give to local clubs or groups including WI.

Most reading this will know I spent 40 years in the fragrance industry as a Creative Perfumer. I understand how important the senses of smell and taste are to our wellbeing. How an impairment can affect emotion and memory, enjoyment of food. The smell of flowers, the sea, nature and those closest to us. Our sense of smell can keep us safe by helping us detect smoke or off food.

Just take a moment and imagine not being able to smell.
