Story
This year Swindon Wheelers are raising money for the Prospect Hospice. Many of us are undertaking challenging events, alongside our annual August Bank Holiday rides. We hope to raise vital funds to ensure that the services the prospect provides are there for everyone who needs them.
Prospect Hospice has been supporting the community of Swindon and the surrounding areas since 1980, providing specialist end-of-life care, emotional support, and compassionate services to patients and their families. Each year they care for around 3,000 people, both at the hospice and out in the community, and as a local charity, rely on the generosity of the community to continue delivering this vital care. The running costs to provide care for patients and their families will amount to £10m this year. Yet in the same year the Government will provide just 18% of the money the hospice needs to stay open and care for families. To give a sense of the impact of your donation, £8 could provide a nutritious meal for a patient, £27 could pay for a session with a social worker, £75 could fund a home visit from a clinical nurse specialist, £132 could provide six weeks of bereavement sessions and £211 could provide support to a patient through the night, making sure a patient and their family have round-the-clock specialist care when they need it most.
