Create stair free access to KS1 classrooms

Due to our voluntary-aided status as a school, we have to raise 10% of the money needed to pay for the ongoing development of the school, including the buildings’ maintenance, facilities and equipment. These funds must be raised separately from all the good work done by Friends of Bishop Gilpin. Without this money it is impossible for the school to maintain its infrastructure to the high standard we have in all other areas of our children’s educational experience. The BG School Fund was therefore established by the School Governors to receive contributions from parents and carers. Your support can help us to Be Great in everything that we do.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

At Bishop Gilpin, we are justifiably proud of our premises and teaching facilities. We are surrounded by wooded grounds that provide a lovely backdrop for learning. However, our multi-level site is a significant challenge to our aim of enabling disabled pupils, staff, parents, and carers to take advantage of the full range of education, benefits, facilities and services that we provide.

With this in mind, we are undertaking a series of vital accessibility projects to achieve our stated goal of meeting the needs of our entire community. This is a project that will have a lasting legacy for our school for many years to come. It is our commitment to providing this legacy and to meeting our school values of caring and equality that has supported our bids for the funding this far.

Phase 1 of the project has given us stair free access into the music room and has allowed us to plan for stair free access to Year 3, the school kitchen and multiple intervention spaces.

With the kind agreement of Ricard’s Lodge High School, we are now planning to undertake Phase 2 in the form of a pathway development which will add access to Years 1 and 2, the school library and the main playground for everyone. This path will be on land that is currently inaccessible to our school. This work will also include the development of the Reception play area, where the slope that currently exists will be flattened and resurfaced. The gallery image shows in green where the new path will be situated and in red the area of the Reception playground that will be excavated and made more usable. It will significantly benefit the day to day running of the school for many years to come.

This is a large financial commitment for the school. While we are delighted to have the valuable support of the Southwark Diocese Board of Education (SDBE), the school needs to meet £20,000 of the total project cost ourselves.

This project falls under the work of the School Fund. The School Fund is organised separately from all the good work done by Friends of Bishop Gilpin.

Any contribution you can make would be hugely appreciated in our quest to Be Great in everything we do.
