Story
In June 2026 we will be taking on the crazy challenge of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro over a 7-day period. With an elevation of 5,895m, conquering this will be no small challenge, let alone the fact that we will be camping out every night - having never camped before this is BIG!!
So the why …..
….. to raise vitally needed funds for the phenomenal Greenfingers Charity who provide life changing outdoor spaces for both children in hospices and their loving support network.
Greenfingers Charity is driven strongly by the belief that time spent outdoors, away from the bedside, can offer children and families under considerable stress a vital opportunity to embrace the benefits of being in the fresh air and engaging with the natural environment, something we have the luxury of enjoying on a daily basis. Precious forever-lasting memories are made within these garden spaces, giving everyone the opportunity to delight in the magical healing and soothing properties of nature.
Our business in 2026 has pledged to raise £100,000 for this deserving cause. British Garden Centres as a family-owned and run business lays much importance on family time and support so we couldn't think of a better cause to champion.
We (Phillippa Stubbs, one of the directors of BGC & Libby Stubbs, daughter of Phillippa and Events Manager at BGC) both have a personal drive to carry out this challenge together:
My tenacity to achieve this challenge comes from turning 50 several months prior to the trek and after a health scare feeling very fortunate for mine and my children’s well-being, I have the great honour that my 20-year-old daughter, Libby, is climbing beside me and I think this can only have a greatly positive effect on her confidence and goals for the future.
We are extremely grateful for every pound you can donate and the time you have taken for this - every little bit really does count.
