Our dedicated team of Brain Tumour Research Runners are taking part in Scotland's biggest running festival to help find a cure for brain tumours
Story
The BGF team are taking on the EMF Hairy Haggis Relay this May as part of Team Brain Power, in support of our close friend Glenn Campbell and his mission to raise as much as possible for the Brain Tumour Research Scottish Centre of Excellence.
Glenn, an Edinburgh-based journalist, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in summer 2023 at just 47 years old. After surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, his treatment is currently keeping the tumour in check, but brain tumours like his are life-limiting and almost always return. Since Glenn’s diagnosis, the disease once again struck close to home and our colleague David Murray’s wife, Lynsey, was diagnosed last year with the same tumour - a stark reminder of how devastating and indiscriminate this illness can be.
Determined to fight back, Glenn founded Brain Power - a fundraising community built on a simple idea: the more scientific brain power focused on this disease, the greater the chance of breakthroughs in treatment and, ultimately, a cure. Funds raised support the Brain Tumour Research Scottish Centre of Excellence, where leading scientists from the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are working to accelerate promising new therapies into clinical trials.
A group of 12 of us will be taking part in the relay, sharing the 26.2-mile Edinburgh Marathon route between teams. In addition, David is bravely taking on the full marathon in support of his wife, Lynsey - an incredible commitment to a cause that is so deeply personal to his family.
Together, as part of Team Brain Power, we are raising vital funds to help improve diagnosis, develop better treatments and give patients now, and in the future longer, better lives.
We are incredibly grateful for any support for a cause that means so much to our team.
