Story

Soaring for Our Smallest Stars: A Skydiving Challenge for UHB's Neonatal Units..

Imagine a world where the tiniest lives, sometimes weighing less than a bag of sugar and arriving months early, requiring specialised medical care. This is the reality for the precious babies in the Neonatal Units at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), United Kingdom, across Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals. One in ten newborns need their extraordinary care, and the support of a dedicated team of healthcare professionals and support staff who work tirelessly, to provide the most advanced care to these vulnerable infants and their families.

As Director of Nursing for Children and Young People’s Services at UHB, I have seen first-hand how hard these teams work to support these families. I have also seen the difference the hospital charity makes.

While the NHS provides incredible clinical support, the Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital Charities go the extra mile, funding vital projects that transform the environment and experience for these families. They've replaced state-of-the-art life-saving equipment such as incubators, funded essential roles like family support workers who are a lifeline for parents, and even purchased a family flat so loved ones can stay close during the most anxious times. We understand that having a baby in neonatal care is an incredibly challenging period for families. That's why the charity is also focused on enhancing the environment to make it as comforting and supportive as possible, ensuring parents, siblings, and extended families can truly spend quality time with their babies.

And here's where we need your incredible support and generosity.....

My brother Ketan Gokani (from Ketan Gokani Photography) and I are taking on an extraordinary challenge to make this vision a reality: we are skydiving on 13th July 2025. We will be leaping from the sky to raise crucial funds for our smallest and youngest patients and their families.

We are passionate about making a profound difference for these families, and your support can literally change lives. Every single donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards enhancing the care and comfort for these precious babies and their brave families.

Your generosity will bring comfort, hope, and vital support when it's needed most.

Help us reach for the sky and give our tiniest stars the best possible start.
