To the Castle and Back: A Sponsored A to Z Walk Through Cambridge’s Architectural Landmarks – From the Well-Known to the Well-Kept Secret · 23 July 2025

It Takes a City was formed to find new ways for everyone in the community to work together, in partnership, to bring a permanent end to rough sleeping. We also provide winter accommodation with 24/7 support followed by year-round transitional "survive and thrive" support.

Story

To the Castle and Back: A Sponsored A to Z Walk Through Cambridge’s Architectural Landmarks – From the Well-Known to the Well-Kept Secret

As part of our commitment to the Cambridge community, the Colleges and Heritage Building Surveying Team at Bidwells is organising a sponsored walk from Bidwells HQ in Trumpington to Cambridge Castle Mound – and back. This scenic route, covering approximately 7 miles, will take us on an A to Z journey through some of the city’s most iconic and hidden architectural treasures.

We are proud to be fundraising for It Takes a City, a Cambridge-based charity working to end homelessness through collaboration and community support.

Along the way, the team will also be capturing photographs of local heritage sites – both celebrated and hidden – to contribute to the Missing Pieces Project by Historic England, helping to fill in gaps in the national heritage record.

We’d love your support

..."It Takes a City - winter project provides a safe and peaceful setting for rough sleepers to journey away from the street. Residents are referred from the Council and offered 24/7 support, individual en-suite rooms, all meals, move-on support and coordinated visits from agencies and public bodies offering housing, substance misuse and mental health advice. All work is centred around the needs of the individual. To sustain this may involve major capital expenditure as well as support to day to day costs. All contributions, in kind, cash or help are welcome"...
