Story

🏃‍♂️ Tony’s Story – 34 Years Later, I’m Going Back to the Start Line!

In 1991 and 1992, I ran the London Marathon. I also completed the New York Marathon in 1991 with a then brand-new charity called Whizz Kidz. I was in peak condition — fresh off selection into a specialist Army Reserve unit — and passionate about running, not particularly quick, but passionate!

Fast forward 34 years, married four grown up kids, divorced, a 30 year old business built, remarried (8 years ago), a serious bout of peritonitis, gout, achilles damage and heel spurs, and a very different lifestyle later… I’m back. Or at least, I’m trying to be!

I’ll be running the 2026 London Marathon for Whizz Kidz, and right now, I’ve just managed my first mile (May 10th 2025). It was tough — but I’m determined. I’ve built the training plan of all training plans, backed by books, audiobooks, and sheer stubbornness. My goal? Beat my 1991 time of 4:57:48 (and yes — it took 30 minutes just to cross the start line back then!).

Whizz Kidz has always meant a lot to me. They support young wheelchair users by providing the right equipment, skills, and confidence — helping them live with independence and pride. Every donation helps make that possible.

Before London, I will be attempting the famous Parachute Regiment's 'Paras10' 10 mile TAB (Tactical Advance to Battle) carrying a 35lb Bergen in Catterick one 27th September 2025, the two weeks later, I will be taking part in the Bournemouth Half Marathon.

💚 Please support me and this amazing charity. Let’s make every mile — and every smile — count.

Let’s do this. Together.

Thank You

Big T xxx

Whizz Kidz is the UK's leading charity supporting young wheelchair users up to 25 years old. More than 75,000 young people in the UK need a wheelchair to be mobile. Most have no access to a wheelchair that’s right for them, leaving them at risk of social isolation, poor mental health and physical injury.

Whizz Kidz provide the right equipment, skills and confidence young wheelchair users need to go further, whilst campaigning for a more open and accessible society.

Every donation will get Whizz Kidz closer to their vision of a society in which every young wheelchair user is mobile, enabled and included.
