Story

1,500-mile bike ride round Scotland, raising funds for the Samaritans. Every donation makes a difference - thank you for reading & extra special thanks if you choose to donate :-)

What? I've just completed a 1,500 mile solo, self-supported bike ride round Scotland, carrying everything including camping gear with me. The route roughly followed the mainland coast and border with England, and involves over 26,000m of ascent (around 3 Mount Everests, or - keeping it local - 20 Ben Nevises).

Why? Aside from having a great adventure around my adopted home country, I'm also raising funds for the Samaritans, whose goal is to reduce the number of people dying by suicide in the UK and Ireland. I'm doing this in memory of Mike, a friend who loved the outdoors, enjoyed an adventure and would probably have approved of the silly ambition of this one.

When? The adventure has just finished I started pedalling on 30th April 2025 from home in the Cairngorms, heading clockwise around the Scottish coast, and finished on 30th May. Photos in the updates section below.

About the Samaritans and how your donation helps: Every 10 seconds, Samaritans volunteers respond to a call for help. Samaritans are available, for free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to listen and support people with whatever they are facing, with no judgement. As little as £10 funds one potentially life-saving call. It’s only your kind donations and 23,000 listening volunteers that ensure Samaritans can always be there for anyone struggling to cope. Samaritans also support frontline health workers and campaign for prioritising suicide prevention at a national level. Thank you for your help.
