Story
I am running the Brighton Half Marathon on 1st March in support of Grassroots Suicide Prevention. This is not something I do regularly, or particularly well. I am not a runner, I have not trained as much as I should have, and choosing to do this was, in hindsight, ambitious.
That said, the cause is one I really care about. Like many people, I have seen how mental health struggles can affect people close to me, often without much warning. Grassroots Suicide Prevention focuses on practical, real world help. They give people the confidence to have conversations, recognise when someone is struggling, and step in when it matters.
If my slightly ill advised attempt at running 13.1 miles can help support that work, then it feels worth it. Thank you very much for donating, sharing, or politely pretending this was a sensible idea.
Here's the official blurb:
Grassroots Suicide Prevention empowers people to help save lives from suicide through educating, connecting and campaigning nationally.
They know suicide can be prevented with timely intervention. Most people who die by suicide want their pain to end, not their lives.
When you donate, 85p of every £1 goes directly back into suicide prevention, which GSP achieve with an award-winning app, extensive online resources, a wide range of training and regular campaigns and events.
60,000 people have been trained by us to have life-saving conversations.
880,000 people have downloaded our pioneering and award-winning app.
10,000,000 people have been reached through our recent awareness campaigns.
