I'm raising money for Heartbeat as a heart disease survivor and former Trustee of the Charity. Discovering how ill I was a few years ago shocked me, but left my family even more traumatised as they watched my sudden and shocking decline, followed by gradual recovery.

I've decided on a Pub to Club Swim on the River Hamble, a couple of miles from the Jolly Sailor Pub on the river in Bursledon to the Royal Southern Yacht club in Hamble - where some refreshments may be taken.

Many of my chums from the Hard Nippler's swimming group will be joining me for the dip. The photo is a bunch of us battling the waves during the winter. We swim all year round and it's great fun... and great for my ticker!
