This year, I’m running the London Marathon to raise money for Sycamore Trust UK, a local Essex charity supporting autistic people and their families across Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

Sycamore Trust UK helps children, young people and adults with autism develop vital communication and independence skills, while offering support, guidance and training for families. They also work with schools, businesses and community groups to create more understanding and inclusive environments, something I’m incredibly passionate about.

I’m now in my fourth year as a primary school teacher, working in an incredible special needs school in Redbridge. I’ve had the privilege of teaching so many wonderful children with autism and other additional needs each one unique, inspiring and full of potential. Working closely with their families has shown me just how important the right support is and how charities like Sycamore Trust UK make a real difference to everyday lives.

Your donations will help fund speech and communication programmes, family support groups, training for schools and life skills sessions for young people all aimed at helping autistic individuals and their families live with confidence, connection and independence.

On a personal note, anyone who knows me will be shocked to see the word “marathon” anywhere near my name haha. I’m taking on a challenge I never thought I’d even consider and I hope it shows the children I teach and my younger self that with belief and hard work, even the most unlikely goals are possible.
