The Access to Justice Foundation is the UK’s only national charity solely focused on providing funding and support for access to legal advice and representation. We raise funds and distribute them strategically to organisations that provide free legal advice to the most vulnerable in society.

Story

Join in with this years Birmingham Legal Walk for the Access to Justice Foundation supported by our fantastic sponsors Gowling WLG LLP, St Philip Chambers, No.5 Chambers, Birmingham City University and University of Law (click on the image above to see our sponsors!)

Did you know that two thirds of people in the UK do not know how to get legal advice, 14 million people live in poverty and cannot afford access to justice, the annual legal aid budget, in real terms, is £950m less than it was in 2010 and that up to a million people live in areas with no legal aid provision for housing.

The Access to Justice Foundation are a national charity solely focused on delivering access to justice for those in need. They use their expertise to tackle the barriers to justice that advice organisations continually face. They help advice charities build stable foundations to continue to provide vital legal services to the most marginalised individuals.

Funds raised through the walk will be used by The Access to Justice Foundation to support free legal advice across the region and the UK – in communities where it is needed the most. By joining the Birmingham Legal Walk, you can help to ensure the people of our community have fair access to justice, and the beneficiary agencies can keep the lights on, and the doors open for the people who need them most.

By taking part, you will be walking shoulder to shoulder with fellow members of the Birmingham legal community led by our committed and diligent local Judiciary.

Judges, Law firms, Barristers chambers, advice agencies, in house legal departments, and University Law groups will walk in solidarity and to raise funds for this essential charity before enjoying a refreshing drinks reception provided by Birmingham City University at their City Centre Campus on Cardigan Street.

The walk will start at St Philips Chambers, Temple Row at 5.00pm for Registration and will finish at the Eagle and Ball Pub on BCU’s City Centre campus with a free drink to be provided to each walker.

Please note that any children or vulnerable adults should be accompanied by an adult if undertaking the Walk.

Dogs are very welcome on the Walk but need to be on a lead.

Please be aware that there will be cyclists on the Canal path so take care and lookout for them. Please give cyclists precedence and walk single file if necessary.

There will be a First Aider available on the Canal towpath. If you need First Aider assistance, please call 0771 5067909. Obviously, if the injury is serious or someone is in danger, call 999.
