This August, I will be travelling to Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, with a small group of volunteers from Bayes Business School. We will be volunteering for the charity Helping Hanna’s Community, a small community based organisation targeting at supporting Holistic Opportunity for Humanity(HOH), which originally began as Hanna’s Orphan Home. For this trip I am responsible to raise funds that will be used to support HOH.

Why would you donate to HOH?

Your donations would help to support disadvantaged children. HOH initially focused on caring for children who have lost parents to HIV/AIDS or whose parents were too unwell to look after them. Today, the charity supports over 200 children by providing safe housing and essential care, with some living at the orphanage and others placed within family-based units.

Your donations would contribute to the education the orphans receive, volunteers help with the summer school program provided by HOH, which help the children develop their English language skills, a crucial skill for their future education and opportunities. My fellow colleagues and I will be supporting students in learning English, Maths, and other key subjects, helping to strengthen their understanding and build essential academic skills.

90% of children supported by HOH have been able to complete school, further their education by attending higher education as well as becoming independent adults. HOH is also shown to extend their help to the community, the organisations supports vulnerable parents, families and the elderly, making an impact in the community.

All donations directly funds the charity’s necessities such as ensuring a good standard of personal hygiene as well as providing food or helping with infrastructure. To increase the donations I am planning on hosting a sports day and other small events leading up to August.
