On Friday 10th May the BlackRock Bandits (Nick Hodge, Josh Richardson, Dom Byrne, Chris Ellis-Thomas and Ellie Stoneham) will be taking part in the Great Release Cycle Challenge to support XO bikes a social enterprise backed by Onwards and Upwards a UK registered charity.
XO Bikes is doing something revolutionary; helping ex-offenders (XOs) leaving prison escape the cycle of exclusion that leads to high reoffending rates, poverty and social dysfunction. Britain has the highest reoffending rate in Europe - we need your help to change this and change the lives of many.
The right training, support and a job more than halves reoffending rates. That’s what XO, bikes offers by recycling and refurbishing bikes that are donated, abandoned, and unloved, and building our own brand swagged bikes that combine the bloke that fixed it and the bike you can now ride, giving them a brighter future together.
With the funds we raise, XO can help even more ex-offenders become productive, fulfilled mechanics and sales people. Through helping to provide stable employment opportunities we can help break ever more cycles of reoffending, and rebuild even more lives.
The race will consists of two routes starting from HMP in Wandsworth and cycling out of London across the Surrey Hills on an 80km loop or a 125km loop with over 1000m climbing. All contributions will help this incredible cause but if we exceed our target the whole team will commit to doing the longer route!
