I'm running the London Marathon this Sunday 27th April for the charity I volunteer with - the UK Centre for Animal Law (A-LAW).

About the charity: A-LAW's mission is to promote knowledge and education about the law relating to animal protection and to achieve a better legal framework for animals.

With limited funds, our small but dedicated team publish the UK Journal of Animal Law as well as reports, blogs and newsletters. We host in-person and virtual events, including a Legal Skills lab, an annual conference, and regular podcasts. We provide informed responses to government consultations, and we facilitate and participate in initiatives with other organisations working on improving law and policy relating to animals.

For example, we recently worked with a coalition of NGOs on a new law to ban the UK advertising of cruel animal-related tourism practices abroad such as elephant rides, or monkeys and tiger cubs used as photo props to entertain tourists, (who often have no idea of the suffering these animals endure in these activities and their daily living conditions).

About the run: my training has really been a bit meh, peppered with various calf and hip niggles, and now the 20c weather forecast will guarantee increasing levels of discomfort... so I would love to reach a minimum total of £10 per mile as this will really help to keep me motivated throughout.
