My sister Eleanor, was amazing. She was a devoted mother, a caring daughter, a great big sister, an artist, a highly regarded art lecturer, she was stylish, she loved music and given any opportunity she would be cutting shapes on the dance floor. She was a fabulous person whose life was taken far too early.
Shortly after turning 46, Eleanor lost her short battle to bowel cancer in August 2024. She fraught strong and hard, with her two children as her driving force. Throughout the 18 months of being under palliative care, she wanted to continue living as normal as possible right until the end, determined to not allow the cancer to take over. Unfortunately it took a grip of her extremely quickly and she was admitted into St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk and within 4 days, she slipped away.
Eleanor's death gave me the driving force to work once again in the third sector and I am extremely proud to now be working for City Hospice. A service I have had first hand experience of and now truly understand it's importance.
Eleanor was an incredibly thoughtful, sensitive and caring person who always wanted the best for others especially if she had faced similar difficulties. So I know Eleanor would be proud of me for running the half marathon on behalf of City Hospice, and she will most definitely be cheering me on from the finishing line.
City Hospice is a home-based specialist palliative care in the Cardiff. Their services are provided free of charge, meaning the charity needs to raise more than £3 million each year to ensure they can keep sending their nurses out into the local community.
City Hospice is at the heart of Cardiff, providing end of life care to patients in the local community. With your support, we can continue to provide specialist palliative care to people at home, offer welfare advice to those who need it, and counselling for loved ones.
