Story
We're bringing together the old boys of Bradford on Avon RFC for a special Vets Game in support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, raising funds and awareness for those affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
This cause is close to our heart. Earlier this year, long-time VP and club stalwart Mike Lamplough was diagnosed with MND.

Mike joined BoA RFC in the early 2000s back when we were based at St Laurence School. Initially getting involved through junior coaching while his sons played, he quickly became bored on the touchline and was part of the re-formed 2nd XV, playing his first match on 27th September 2001.

Over the years, Mike became deeply embedded in club life captaining and organising the 2nd team, chairing the Disciplinary Panel, and helping steer the club's growth behind the scenes. He was also one of the financial guarantors who helped secure funding for the construction of the club’s permanent home in Winsley, a legacy that continues to benefit the whole BOA rugby community.

In Summer 2024, Mike laced up his boots once more on tour in Sussex at the age of 64, playing for Bradford against his eldest son’s club, St Francis RFC based in Crawley, Sussex. That day the Lamplough family packed down together, Mike, Steve, and David in the front row, with Brian on Mike’s flank. A true rugby moment.

This charity match reunites players from Mike’s early 2000s playing era and beyond to raise money, raise a glass, and celebrate the friendships, family, and values that make grassroots rugby what it is.
