Story

On Friday, 6 September 2024 some men will be running 4.37 miles every four hours for 48 hours (the equivalent of two marathons) in an around Devizes, Wiltshire. Previously we have run from Devizes to Westminster Bridge and back and as I couldn't think of something quite as ridiculous and with the help of the internet this was born!

We are doing this because in November 2019 we were unfortunate to lose one of our great friends to a rare autoimmune blood disease called Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis or HLH.

This year we are again running in support of Histiocytosis UK and a new charity to us, Devizes Opendoors.

Histiocytosis UK a charity that is dedicated to promoting and funding scientific research into uncovering not only the causes of all histiocytic diseases, which include HLH, but also ensuring early diagnosis, effective treatment, and a cure. Histiocytosis UK also supports patients and their families as well as raise public and professional awareness of histiocytic disorders. More information about Histiocytosis UK can be found at www.histiouk.org.

Four times a week Devizes Opendoors provide a cooked meal to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. They also offer a shower, laundry tickets, clothes, shoes, toiletries, use of a mobile phone and take-away food options. At Devizes Opendoors support is available for housing issues, financial struggles, mental and physical health services, addiction support and lots, lots more!
