BOSTON MARATHON 2026 · 20 April 2026

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

Along with my pals Tom Taylor Smith and Jimmy Stone, I am running the 2026 Boston Marathon in memory of two amazing friends who I lost to addiction-related accidents last year.

It will be our fourth Marathon Major medal, and I want to use it as an opportunity to do some good and raise money for a fantastic charity that helps those who struggle, like Charlie and Nick did.

The loss of Charlie and Nick was, and still is, one of the hardest things I, and everyone close to them, have had to go through. I still believe that if they had been happier in their lives, they might not have been so dependent on their addictions, and the course of destruction and the huge amount of pain that we all feel could have been avoided.

They are not the only people I have known, cared for, and loved who I have lost due to unbearable unhappiness. It often feels like most people I know have similar stories to tell.

In truth, I’ve had struggles of my own, constantly battling anxiety and difficulties with my mental health, and there have been times when I haven’t wanted to be here. I am lucky to have such a close-knit support network around me, people I will always cherish, but I also know others are not as fortunate.

I’m also very lucky that I can afford therapy, but many people don’t have this luxury, and even for those who do, it often isn’t enough.

This is where CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably) helps thousands of people and I will be running the Boston Marathon to raise money for them on Monday 20 April.

Everyone deserves to be here, and everyone deserves to be happy. I believe that if we could all talk more openly with each other, many of the people who feel like there’s no way out could realise that there can be.

This will be an emotional marathon for me, and I will never forget Charlie and Nick. But this is also for everyone out there who has been affected by suicide or loss, and for anyone suffering from unhappiness.

Anything you can spare will help make a difference for an important cause. Thank you for reading, and I’ll let you know how I get on in Boston next month.
