Story
Last year, my amazing partner, Alaine, died of cancer. I want to do something as amazing as she was to honour her memory.
I am going to walk from our club in Birmingham to our club in London. I am setting off from Bournville Social Club on Saturday 13 June and walking the 160 miles of Grand Union Canal and River Thames to The East India Club in St James, avoiding all roads. This will take me two weeks and I will be documenting my journey, and remembering Alaine, in a daily travel blog (link at bottom). This will include reviews of all 14 full English breakfasts, all 14 pub lunches and the local ales.
Following the loss of Alaine, I was unfortunate to then lose my Dad, Ron Greenfield, and soon after my cat, Mrs Puddykins. It was a very painful time for me however, the Birmingham Hospice Wellbeing Team supported me through this difficult period with bereavement counselling for which I am very grateful for.
In order to give something back for the help I received, I will be using the walk to raise money for Birmingham Hospice.
Your donations can make a huge difference to the work of Birmingham Hospice for example: £59 pays for a bereavement support session that helped me through my journey of grief.
Or:
£11 could pay for a delicious home-cooked meal for people in their Inpatient Units.
£22 could pay for a teddy bear with the recording of a loved one's voice for children to treasure forever.
£43 could fund one hour of our Living Well Centre services which help patients socialise and look after their wellbeing.
£93 could pay for a nurse to visit a patient in their home so they can be cared for in the place of their choice.
£100 could pay for a specialist bereavement support session to help those who have lost a loved one.
Thank you for your support, it is very much appreciated.
This is the link to my travel blog. I hope you enjoy it.
