Story
Anyone can train for months and finish a triathlon. Frankly, that is the boring version. I am taking on the Reading Triathlon with no training whatsoever, because the discomfort is the entire idea. A small, deliberately ridiculous amount of suffering, in exchange for one deliberately precise sum: £200.
That £200 does exactly one thing. It pays for one person to take their Level One coaching badge. Not a vague drop into a big fund. One badge, one person, and quite possibly the start of a livelihood, or the reason a hundred local kids get coached properly for years to come.
I first worked at Reading FC in 1998, left in 2006, and came back twenty years later to find the same community still here, still worth it. Every week we reach over 3,500 people, from a toddler's first kickabout to our Dementia Café.
So: I get cold, wet and thoroughly humbled. Someone else gets a career. That feels like a very good trade. Please back it.
