Story
8 players. 72 holes. 1 day.
On Tuesday 30th June eight intrepid Betchworth Park golfers are taking on the ‘Longest Day Challenge’ in support of SERV, the Captains' Charity.
Starting at about 5am and hoping to finish before it gets too dark, the team will be playing 4 full rounds, so 72 holes.
SERV is a charity organisation made up entirely from volunteers, providing a professional, efficient service to our community at no cost to the NHS. We mostly consist of motorbike riders, car drivers, controllers, fundraisers and our team represents a variety of people from many walks of life. We deliver: Blood products, Donated breast milk. Medical samples and Medical supplies.
Meet the players:
Rona Hodson. Women’s Captain. Handicap 18.8. Never done anything like this before! (Or again?) Fantastic way to raise money for our Captains’ Charity.
Gill Williams Handicap: 11.3. Took part in the Longest Day Challenge in 2023. Only gets back from supporting England at the World Cup the day before, so add a little jetlag into the challenge!
Ali Lee. Handicap 15.6. The newest recruit to the golf team and having never played more than 27 holes in a day will find this a shock to the system...however, a day off work, plenty of laughs and raising money for charity....what's not to love!
Kate Hale. Handicap 25.5. Kate is a little anxious about attempting such a big challenge but looking forward to playing with a great group of people and as a retired trauma nurse, she appreciates the fantastic job the charity performs in delivering lifesaving blood and is proud to be part of raising money for SERV.
Chris Rooney. Club Captain. Handicap 17.0. Life has many challenges and as Club Captain this one just has to be done. The pleasure of seeing the sun rise with golf friends supporting each other, raising money for our deserving Club Charity and hopefully seeing the 72nd hole together before the sun sets.
Iain Berry. Handicap 14.2. Having competed in this event a couple of years ago, I am delighted to have another chance to take on this challenge and support this excellent charity whilst enjoying 4 rounds at Betchworth Park with some great golfing buddies.
Tom Bridger. Club Manager. Handicap: 3.3. The youngest member of the squad. Played in 2023 having only just recovered from a foot injury, No such excuses this time.
Chris Parks. Handicap 9.6. Completed the challenge in 2023 when he shot a gross 70 on the second 18. Can history repeat itself?!
Please give generously…and come and support us on the day.
