Story
I am taking on the London Marathon 2026 with my running partner, Kerry, in support of Rays of Sunshine Charity. This is a charity very close to our hearts.
Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity exists to fulfil the wishes of children, between the ages of 3-18 in the UK, of any race or gender who are terminally or seriously ill. It also buys equipment for these children and supports the hospices, hospitals and specialist schools that care for them. The charity brightens the lives of these children and their families by granting wishes and providing ongoing support. Rays of Sunshine believes that every child deserves to experience happiness and put their illness on hold, even if it is just for one day. Their work provides a positive distraction, reduces isolation, improves self-esteem and creates precious memories and smiles.
KERRY'S STORY.
My son, Adam, was born 8 weeks premature and suffered a brain injury at birth due to lack of oxygen to the brain. This left Adam severely disabled, with no use of his limbs, visually impaired, epilepsy, gastro oesophogeal reflux, chronic lung disease and a very weak swallow and cough reflex resulting in Nil by Mouth. He is a full time wheelchair user and oxygen user. In his early years, Adam spent more of his life in hospital missing family christmases and holidays were just a pipe dream.
In more recent years Adam has been well enough to go on family holidays and we have made some magical memories together. We have been incredibly lucky to have been gifted charity breaks. A trip to Euro Disney and a stay at Center Parcs Whinfell Forest, both of which were fantastic.
My running buddy Brad and I wanted to give something back to thank the charities for their genorosity and support. We ran the Sheffield and Derby Half Marathons smashing our £500 fundraising target in the process. We are now taking on the huge challenge of the London Marathon, ,a gruelling 26.2 miles!! This is no mean feat and we really need you to dig deep to help us achieve our fundraising goal. Any amount large or small is very much appreciated. Please help us to raise awareness by sharing our page so that many more families can have their children's wishes and dreams granted to make special memories to treasure.
