A Tale of Two Warriors: Brad & Scruffy's Journey
Life has a way of weaving unexpected connections. When my loyal companion Scruffy was diagnosed with a brain tumour, I never imagined I'd soon be facing the same battle. Scruffy, my sandwich-stealing, eternally optimistic terrier, taught me more about courage than I thought possible. Even as seizures took their toll, his tail kept wagging, his spirit unbroken until the very end.
Now, in a twist of fate, I've received my own brain tumour diagnosis. But instead of letting fear take the lead, I'm channeling Scruffy's indomitable spirit into an extraordinary challenge - the North Downs Way 100 Mile UltraMarathon on August 9th, 2025.
Every training run brings memories of morning walks with Scruffy, his excited barks my daily alarm clock. On tough days, I imagine him running beside me, giving me that signature head tilt that always seemed to say, "Come on, you've got this!"
With Scruffy's Toy in my hand and his courage in my heart, I'm running to support Brain Tumour Support, an organisation that helps families navigate this challenging journey without using animal testing. Each mile represents someone fighting their own battle against brain tumours - just like Scruffy did, and just like I am now.
They say every marathon has a story. This one has two warriors, four legs and two, united in one cause. Through your support, we can ensure no one faces this journey alone.
