Story
Sean Cafferty, James Dalton, Henry Wilde, Joel Garner, Alex Dunsby and Sam Sutton will be attempting to reach the summit of the three highest peaks in Great Britain – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Mount Snowdon in Wales – and all within 24 hours. It’s a huge undertaking.
In total, the three summits reach over 3,400m above sea level, with the routes adding up to 23 miles of climbing. There will be over 460 miles of driving between the three peaks, and the team will have little sleep as they will need to climb and travel overnight to reach their 24-hour goal.
The challenge was Sean and Sams’ idea to raise funds for local hospice Blythe House. Blythe House Hospicecare provides incredible, free support in the High Peak and surrounding areas for those whose lives or families are impacted by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. “We’ve been talking about doing something like this for a while and wanted to help Blythe House with the amazing work they do,” explains Sean whose best friend’s wife received palliative care at the Chapel-en-le-Frith-based hospice. “Everybody in the local area knows someone who has been helped by this amazing place.”
The Hope Works friends started training back in March and aim to begin their first ascent up Ben Nevis on 13 June. “We’re nervous but we can’t wait!” says Sean.
If you’d like to support Sean, Sam, James, Joel, Alex and Henry in raising funds for the incredible Blythe House, we would welcome your donation.
