The toughest footrace on earth... and a team of intrepid runners are taking it on in aid of Chance for Childhood!

Story

I am absolutely thrilled and little humbled to be representing Chance for Childhood at the Marathon des Sables 2025.

Some say that The Marathon des Sables (MDS), because of its unique structure and location, is The Toughest Foot Race on Earth. A 7 day ultramarathon race in the Sahara Desert covering some 250+ kms of sand dunes, Jebels (hill ranges) and hard packed desert trails. All whilst carrying your own food, water, sleeping equipment and supplies.

A Little About Me:

My story is a simple one. For far too long I had a poor relationship with food which ultimately culminated in a number of medical issues that needed to be addressed, having topped the scales at a very unhealthy weight of 172kg. Blessed with the support of an outstanding medical team @streamlinesurgical and the support, guidance and mentorship of my friend and personal trainer @aleeex_bennett I have lost over 88kg and now enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

With Alex's help and support I have hit a number of milestones over the past few years including:

14 x Marathon Finishes.

5 x Ultra Marathon Finishes, including 100km at this year's Hope Trail Festival.

2 x 70.3 Triathlons.

And the pinnacle to date of an Iron Distance Triathlon Finish at Outlaw Nottingham in July 2023.

The Important Bit

We need your help to support this incredible charity.

Chance for Childhood believe that no child should have to fight for a safe, happy childhood. They exist to ensure that every child in Africa can thrive from their early years through to adulthood.

They don’t work alone. Together with partners, supporters, children and their communities, they protect, educate and create lasting change for every child threatened by violence, neglect and conflict.

They specialise in ensuring access to inclusive education and safe spaces so that children in Africa and beyond can play, grow, learn and thrive.

By 2025 they will support 150,000 children in vulnerable situations.

Their focus has always been to reach children in vulnerable situations whose basic needs and rights are not met elsewhere. Over the past five years, Chance for Childhood has worked with dedicated local staff and partners to define and identify those children most in need of support.

Gender and disability are significant factors of exclusion and marginalisation for children in vulnerable situations. That is why they will ensure inclusion for all children, and especially girls, and those living with disabilities.

How You Can Help!

Please donate where you feel able but as importantly please share this message on your own social media platforms where and as you feel able.
