Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I really appreciate it.
Every now and again I see an event that is so special that I have to enter. Such was the case with The Original Marathon – a project that will recreate the marathon held at the London Olympics in 1908 – the event that gave us the distance of 26.2 miles and today defines the ultimate test in endurance sport.
On March 16th I will line up with 74 other runners and together we will set out to retrace the steps of those pioneers of 1908. The streets of London may have changed but those 26.2 miles still exist and it will be both and honour and a test of my physical resources to take part in this inaugural recreation of an historic sporting moment. Back in 1908 the winning time (after much controversy and a disqualification) was 2 hours 54 minutes and only 24 of the 75 runners completed the course. I am determined to finish but this will be no easy task.
To this end I would like to ask for your support so that I can raise much needed funds for Aspire, the spinal injury charity for which I have been the Chief Executive for twenty six years! Every four hours someone is paralysed by a spinal cord injury in the UK. Aspire helps people who have been paralysed move from injury to independence. It's a very special charity that does amazing things for people and I can personally vouch for how precious every single penny you donate will be to us.
It has been many years since I have tested myself in this way for Aspire and I would be very grateful if you could give generously.
