The Clipper Round the World Race is not only an opportunity for me to achieve a personal goal, but also to do my part in helping raise important funding for the UNICEF charity. Our goal is to raise £420,000 over the course of the race.

Why is this important to me?

I started out as a young student engineer travelling around the rural Transkei region of South Africa monitoring drinking water boreholes, in order to develop a much needed groundwater management plan. Working in these communities, I got to appreciate how hard life is for those without easy access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene and how initiatives and even limited funding can make a real difference.

UNICEF works in more than 190 countries and territories and in the world’s toughest places to reach the children and young people in the greatest need, by responding to emergencies and building long-term resilience through vaccines, clean water, and therapeutic food.

By example, our fundraising could purchase 85 large water tanks to store and disinfect water for 510,000 people.

UNICEF has been both a Charity and Team Partner for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race since the 2015-16 edition and during this time has raised £1.6 million for children around the world.
