Story
In memory of Brian Barnes
22.02.1935 - 24.04.2026
Because scouting was such a major part of Brian's life and from which he made so many life long friends, we have set up this fundraiser to support The Scout Association in his memory.
Brian passed away on Friday 24 April 2026 aged 91 and had been active in scouting for over 80 years, joining the 14th Hackney (St John at Hackney) scout group in xxxx.
He was also a Rover Scout and a proud member of The Capt. Oates Rover Crew based in Hackney which disbanded in 1968. Despite this, the crew continued to meet regularly and still do today.
He went on many trips to the Kandersteg International Scout Station in Switzerland, one of his most favourite places in the world, during his early scouting life and continued to visit later in his life on holiday with family.
He was honoured with a 60-years service award from the former Chief Scout, Bear Grylls in January 2013 and also served as a District Commissioner for Kent.
In addition to the trips to Kandersteg, Brian and his family spent many camping holidays with the Rover Crew members and their families, in particular several years to Birchington on Sea, Kent which holds many wonderful memories of playing cricket on the sand and huge sand sculptures at St Mildred's Bay, Westgate-on-Sea.
