My son, Sam, is in year 10 at St James School, Exeter, and I've been so impressed by the school's incredible drama and music team.

The end of term shows and performances have been fantastic. It's inspiring to see the students find the courage to get up on stage, perform in front of their peers and a packed audience and give it everything they've got.

But state schools are working with lean budgets and there isn't always money available for the equipment that can make such a difference to these experiences.

As a physiotherapist working in the NHS, I know what it's like to work with limited resources while still trying to provide the very best you can.

So, on 4 October, I'm doing something I've never done before: running my first half marathon.

I'm raising money towards a new sound system for St James School, so that every student taking part in these brilliant performances can be heard, load and clear.
