Story

This week, I’m proud to join my fellow Junior League of Washington (JLW) members in the Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI). This annual campaign raises awareness of poverty and its impact on our community while funding grants that uplift women and families in need.

This year’s theme, Empowering Women to Thrive and Shine, resonates deeply with my personal and professional journey. As a social worker, my life’s work has been dedicated to supporting women’s mental health and maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting programs. These efforts directly address the systemic barriers many women face, fostering healthier families and stronger communities.

In my 17 years as a proud JLW member, I have grown as a trained community volunteer, a nonprofit board member, and a leader. This organization has given me the tools to turn passion into action, equipping me to champion change for women and children in meaningful, sustainable ways.

Funds raised through LBDI empower us to award community grants to local nonprofits working tirelessly to improve the lives of women and families. These grants are a lifeline, ensuring critical resources and support reach those who need them most.

I’m committed to carrying this mission forward, both as a League member and in my career. Together, we can ensure every woman has the opportunity to thrive and shine—no matter her circumstances.

Join me in this vital work! Whether through a donation, sharing this message, or supporting your local nonprofit, your involvement makes a difference.
