Brighton Pier to Pier Swim · 17 September 2023

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

*** Update: due to the strong winds and poor sea conditions, the organisers of the event have postponed the swim to 17 September - we will be swimming our 1km then instead ***

At the end of June we lost one of our best friends Helen unexpectedly to cancer. We are all heartbroken, but inspired by the bravery she displayed we want to raise some money for Cancer Research UK in her memory.

Helen was a one in a million friend, wife, mum, granny and colleague whose kindness, sense of humour, and loving nature touched so many of us. She was one of the most thoughtful and generous people, and leaves an impossible to fill hole in so many of our lives.

If you have any money you can spare please consider donating - CRUK fund excellent research on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

We are swimming 1km between the Brighton piers, and are potentially the least prepared of all the groups swimming - Phillippa and Helen C have been travelling to Dudley to practice swimming somewhere bigger than a bucket, Joy's local lido is closed, and Laura has been training in the gym (land swimming?)
