Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. Our mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. These serious mental illnesses ruin and, too often, take lives. Our Helpline is available online or by phone for anyone suffering, as well as their family and friends.

Story

On the 11th july we will do the 3 peaks challenge :)

I struggled with anorexia for almost a decade, and for a long time, I felt like recovery was out of reach. It wasn’t until I was 19 that I received real acknowledgment and support from the NHS, but by then, I had been told it could be ‘too late’ for me. I believed that my life would be defined by my eating disorder. But, after hitting rock bottom, I reached a turning point and was able to fully recover by my 20th birthday with incredible support from my family and friends.

I never thought I could be free from anorexia but I want sufferers to know that they can find a way out and life can be so different. In the last year, I’ve lived more than I had in all my teen years.

Exercise and moving my body used to be a compulsion for me but since recovering and coming to a university so close to the peaks I have found love for moving just to move. I experience good weather and bad weather and amazing views and meh views and mid-walk pint and crisps and post walk sweet treats. My world used to be so small and restricted - I never appreciated these things.

That’s why I’m attempting the UK's 3 peaks challenge with my lovely friend Becca to fundraise for Beat. Beat provides crucial support for anyone affected by eating disorders—whether they’re struggling themselves, or supporting someone else. Just £100 helps provide online support to 50 people, and £50 funds their vital telephone helpline for an hour. They also play a key role in raising awareness through campaigns and improving treatment by partnering with the NHS.
