Bristol Channel Social Rowers is raising money for The Underfall Yard Trust

Rowing in The Great River Race · 20 September 2025

The Trust manages Underfall Yard, an historic boatyard in Bristol. It safeguards the site as a working boatyard that welcomes visitors. Donations help care for the site, operate a free visitor centre and support the Trust’s education, community engagement and volunteering programmes.

Story

The Bristol Channel Social Rowers are taking part for the first time in the Great River Race on 20th September 2025, the 35 km London marathon for human-powered boats! We are an inclusive, non-competitive rowing club, with members ranging from 30s to 80s, rowing all year round in the beautiful Bristol Harbour for fun and exercise. www.bristolchannelsocialrowers.co.uk

We are raising money to support Underfall Yard, a historic boatyard in Bristol Harbour which was restored in the 1990s as a working boatyard - home to a thriving community of local maritime craftspeople and water-related clubs and organisations, surrounded by historic machinery. In 2023, an arsonist started a devastating fire, which destroyed workshops, boats and historical structures. Underfall Yard has since reopened but many of the site’s structures and workshops still need to be rebuilt to enable former occupants to return and restore Underfall Yard fully as a working boatyard and community asset.
