Story

I am running the 2025 London Marathon for Alzheimer’s Research to increase awareness of the disease and raise money for a cure, while celebrating my lovely Dad.

About Dad (Rob): Dad was diagnosed with a mild cognitive impairment in 2018 (aged 58) and later Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia. He now lives in residential care near our family home in Kāpiti, New Zealand. When he was well, Dad was an avid member of our local harriers club, rarely missing a run. Running gave him a community that he loved, and one that provided comfort and familiarity in the initial stages of his illness. Dad and I often talked about running a marathon together and while I would give anything to have him by my side, it is a privilege to run in his honour and raise money for a cause I know he would be so passionate about.

Why Alzheimer’s Research? Almost 55 million people worldwide are living with dementia today. Tragically, not one of them will survive. Research is our only chance to change that. Alzheimer’s Research is the UK’s leading dementia research charity and exists to revolutionise the way dementia is treated, diagnosed, prevented and eventually cured. This work positively impacts the outlook for dementia patients all over the world.
