Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page. Your support means the world to us.
We are thrilled to announce that this year, we will once again illuminate the night with the blue lights adorning our majestic cedar tree in Fortunes Field. This magical display is not just a celebration of the festive season, but also a symbol of hope and compassion for our community. As we prepare to switch on the Christmas lights on 1 December, we are rallying together in support of our beloved Prospect Hospice in Wroughton. The hospice has been facing challenges in maintaining all its beds and ensuring adequate nursing care for those in need.
We fondly recall the overwhelming generosity shown by our community during the Open Gardens event in 2016, and now, we humbly ask for your support once again. Your donations will directly contribute to keeping the spirit of care and comfort alive at Prospect Hospice. Let's come together to make a meaningful difference this holiday season. Join us in spreading joy and hope as we light up the nights with love and compassion.
We are more than grateful to Hi-lite Roof and Gutter Maintenance Ltd for their most generous offer of support this year in donating their labour, using their Spider lift at no cost, to put our lights on the tree for us in aid of the Prospect Hospice. This was an offer we couldn't refuse!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. There is a locked bucket in the Village Hall on a Tuesday morning for donations, and any donations put through our letterbox at No. 17 Fortunes Field will be put in that box. Thank you.
Saturday, 2 November - UPDATE:
Hi there, all you lovely supporters, and many thanks to all those who have contributed so far, you are wonderful in the extreme!
I have just spent the last two hours shrink wrapping the connections on the sets of lights to be put on the tree - quite exhausting it was, and we have installed an additional RCD to protect the people putting the lights up! Still, hopefully all the effort will be worthwhile.
We look forward to the fun of putting the lights onto the tree sometime in November.
The posters will be going up middle of November, and there will be a locked collection box in the village hall on a Tuesday morning at the Coffee Morning in Broad Hinton, should anyone not be able to donate online. Cheques can be put in there too, made payable to Prospect Hospice.
Bye for now, and thanks again.
Sunday, 17 November - UPDATE
The collection box will now be available from Tuesday 19 November at the village hall, should anyone not wish to donate online. Apologies to those who were looking for it - we had planned to put it there as the lights were switched on, but maybe should have mentioned that in the poster!
Thanks to all those who have donated online, we are very grateful.
Friday, 22 November - UPDATE
Hello, and thanks for your support. I just wanted to let you know that half of the tree has been fitted with lights, should be finished next week. It was a bitterly cold day yesterday, but brightened up so I took some photos of the intrepid workers in the Spider Lift. (See the Gallery above)
Friday, 29 November - UPDATE
Wow, thanks to all who have donated so far, we are nearly half way to the target. It is very exciting that the lights will be turned on this Sunday, as they are all ready to go. Probably at about 16:00 hours if it is getting dark enough. We had a spot of bother with a large branch breaking and hanging down, which compromised one quarter, but the workers managed to retrieve the situation, and they look very pretty. I do hope people will come along and enjoy them.
Saturday, 30 November - UPDATE
Hello again. To celebrate passing the half-way mark towards our target, I thought I would just give you a little history to this project. In 2020, the first year of the pandemic, I was talking with Luke Wightman who has tended our hedges and shrubs and other things for many years. I jokingly said that the tree would look good with Christmas lights - to which he responded that he could do that!
So we are indebted to Luke for this and we would like to pay tribute to him for his supreme efforts to do this each year. We perfectly understood that he couldn't do this in 2023 for personal reasons, but it is important to understand that this wouldn't have happened in the first place without his support.
SWITCHING ON 4PM TOMORROW, 1st DECEMBER!
