Supporting One of Our Own: The Bromley High Junior Team Fundraiser

As a staff team at Bromley High Junior School, we are coming together to support a colleague whose family has been on an unimaginable journey.

We have set ourselves a challenge of walking a marathon from Eastbourne to Brighton Pier, aiming to raise £1000 for an amazing charity.

A World Turned Upside Down:

The challenge began last September, when our colleague's daughter developed what appeared to be a swollen eyelid. After repeated visits to the GP and Urgent Care, a CT scan revealed a large tumor. Following surgery and a biopsy, she was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH)—an incredibly rare condition.

In an instant, the family's world was turned upside down. The normal routines of school and home were replaced by the clinical reality of hospitals and appointments. A port-a-cath was inserted, and a grueling treatment plan of chemotherapy and steroids began. The emotional and physical toll of seeing a child go through such intensive treatment is something no family should have to face alone.

Throughout this long road, the family has been under the expert care of The Royal Marsden and The Queen Elizabeth (part of The Chartwell Cancer Charity) in Woolwich.

Our Goal: Giving Back

We want to show our colleague that their Bromley High family stands with them. To honor the charity that provided fantastic support during the darkest times, the money raised will go directly to The Chartwell Cancer Trust. This is our primary focus, as they provide vital support to both the PRUH and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, both local hospitals.

Looking to the Future:

We are absolutely delighted to share that, after a brave and difficult fight, she is now in remission and has returned to school. While she continues to have regular check-ups, we are all wishing her continued health and happiness.

We are asking our community to help us reach our target to say "thank you" to the organisation that helped pull the family through and made this recovery possible.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
