Story

On 18 May 2025 I will be running the Hackney Half Marathon to raise money for PAPYRUS, the national charity for the Prevention of Young Suicide.

The prevention of suicide and the eradication of the stigma in connection with both mental illness and suicide are causes close to my heart. Accessing help is extremely challenging and services are limited. PAPYRUS provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person, through their helpline, HOPELINE247.

After my friend Chris died in January last year, his sister Emma published a blog post incorporating an article by Professor Rabe which shares a wonderful view on how to understand suicide and find acceptance in loss. I ask you to please read this or send it to those that may find solace in its words.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK and every year over 1800 young people take their own lives. Every £10 raised can contribute towards a life-saving contact to HOPELINE247. My employer, Macfarlanes LLP, will be matching all donations up to £200.

Any donation, however big or small, means the world.
