Benjamin Rose is raising money for The Access Project

Thames Path 100 Miler · 3 May 2025

Students from under-resourced backgrounds are three times less likely to make it to a top university than peers from more advantaged backgrounds. We support these students to access top universities through bespoke mentoring, skills-building coaching, tuition, and enrichment activities.

Story

On Saturday 3rd May 2025, I am running the Thames Path 100 miler (160km). This is a non-stop race which I am hoping to complete in under 24 hours.

I started Ultra running over 2 years ago in January 2023 with my first 50km race taking place in July 2023. Since then I have traveled to Morocco for a multi-stage 110km race and have completed the non-stop Race to the Stones 100km race. Running has become a big part of my life and I have always had my eye on completing the Thames Path 100 miler.

I am running to raise money for The Access Project. As some of you will know, I used to be a teacher having completed the Teach First Training Programme, which focused on creating a fair education for all. The Access Project have a similar vision - please see this in their own words below:

Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.

Access to education in the UK is profoundly unequal. According to The Sutton Trust, students from the most under-resourced backgrounds are three times less likely to attend university than their more advantaged peers.

Our vision is to level the playing field and help the country’s most under-resourced young people place at top universities, giving them the best chance at achieving social mobility.
