Story
The inaugural #RideforRuth ❤️
On July 4th I'm joining a brilliant crew of cycling friends and family to push ourselves for the thousands of parents who every year receive the heartbreaking news of an incurable cancer diagnosis, impacting around 127 children every single day.
I personally remember the call in 2017 from Bru (my nickname for Ruth) asking me if I was sitting down. I was... technically... I was driving the kids to school.
Never did I expect her to say, "You won't believe it. I've got %$&* cancer, and it's everywhere."
I told her I'd call her back once I'd dropped the kids off. As I drove away, Eric Clapton's Change the World came on. That song will forever remind me of that moment because it captured exactly what I was thinking: how can we change the world and change what is happening to her.
Fast forward nine years and, while I still miss Bru every single day, I am incredibly proud of the lives the Ruth Strauss Foundation has touched and the families we've been able to support. We can't change what happened to Bru, but together, with the support of so many incredible people, the Ruth Strauss Foundation has been there for so many other families, helping them navigate one of life's toughest tests. I know that would have meant everything to her, as it does to Andy, the boys, her family and everyone who loved her.
On Saturday, 4th July, I will be joining a wonderful group of RSF family and friends for the second half of our #RideforRuth challenge from The Oval to Arundel, taking on the final 56km of the 127km route.
Every mile we pedal and every pound you donate provides a lifeline for families where a parent is navigating incurable cancer.
Please, if you can, back our ride and help us ensure no family has to walk this path alone.
Gracias, Ix
