Charlie’s fundraiser for Neuroendocrine Cancer UK

The Bruce Family is raising money for Neuroendocrine Cancer UK

Edinburgh Marathon 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃‍♀️ · 25 May 2025

Neuroendocrine Cancer UK exists to support and inform patients and families from diagnosis, enabling access to the best care and treatment, whilst stimulating Neuroendocrine Cancer research, increasing national awareness, and influencing improvements in outcomes.

Story

Neuroendocrine Cancer UK is a charity very close to our hearts as our wonderful Mum was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer at the end of 2022 and sadly passed away in April 2024.

Neuroendocrine Cancer is a complex and unpredictable form of cancer, that is very often misdiagnosed. It is classed as a rare cancer, however incidents of Neuroendocrine Cancer have risen by 371% in the last 33 years. Being classified as a rare cancer means that research and development for treatments is largely underfunded in the UK, despite the increase in cases.

Because of this, our lovely Mum was, unfortunately, misdiagnosed and therefore her correct treatment plan was delayed by many months.

Neuroendocrine Cancer UK does incredible work in supporting, educating and enabling families affected by Neuroendocrine Cancer, including, putting on free counselling for patients or affected family members. Neuroendocrine Cancer UK have been a huge source of expertise and help for our family in navigating this difficult journey and we would love to give back so they can continue supporting families like ours.

In comparison to Cancer Research UK, Neuroendocrine Cancer UK’s income is incredibly only 0.05% of what Cancer Research UK brings in each year (approx. £398,000 vs £718 million), which really highlights the disparity in funding for rarer cancer types.

Our family and friends will be coming together to take part in the following events:

- Climbing the three major peaks of the UK: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, across 3 days between 4th May - 6th May 2024!

- 5 a side football tournament - 1st June 2024

- Neuroendo Jug Golf Day - 30th August 2024

Charlie’s company are also going to match every donation up to £15,000

We hope you can join us by donating whatever you can and, more importantly, spreading the word of Neuroendocrine Cancer and their amazing charity!
