Birmingham JSOC ball · 12 December 2024

We are the voice of over 8,500 Jewish students, spanning 60 Jewish Societies (J-Socs) on campuses across the UK and Ireland. We are traditional, progressive, cultural and spiritual; we come from the left, centre and right and can be found across religious and political spectrums.

Story

For the past year, students have faced unprecedented challenges tackling anti-Semitism on campus. Many feel uncomfortable expressing their Jewish identities in public, whilst attending lectures and when out with friends. The Birmingham Jewish Society (JSoc) team works tirelessly to offer students a safe space in which they can connect and engage with other Jewish students, building social networks and relationships both with other students and with their Judaism.

The Birmingham JSoc ball is the highlight of the JSoc Calendar, bringing together students from Birmingham and other universities such as Liverpool and Warwick. Offering Kosher food and an unforgettable experience, the ball allows Jewish students to come together for an evening of music, dancing and gourmet food.

Last year, many students were unable to afford the ticket price and, due to financial pressures and increasing costs, this remains a concern. The Ball is crucial in bringing together Jewish students and nurturing Jewish connections, so it is our utmost priority to ensure that ticket prices are as affordable as possible, enabling an increased number of students to take part. With your donation, ticket prices can be significantly lowered and a bursary fund introduced to enable all students to attend, regardless of their financial constraints.

Now, more than ever, it is imperative to provide opportunities for students to build pride in their Jewish identities by connecting with other British Jews. Please help us to make this year’s JSoc Ball an evening for ALL students to remember.
