We are beyond proud and excited to support Dementia UK for the third year in a row! Working in a care home we get to know and love the person behind the diagnosis. The following events and activities have been tailor made to support and encourage engagement from the community, family and friends, and those living with us. We can't wait to see you at our week of fundraising!
Monday 18th May -
Opening ceremony for the week our residents choir will be performing the song, This is me from The Greatest Showman.
The day will follow on with our Southern smoke fest and blues day.
We will have a Texan BBQ, themed music, fancy dress, man Vs food challenge, and this will end with a trivia evening with residents and families competing in teams.
Tuesday 19th May -
I will be holding an event in our village Methodist church. This will be a dementia awareness drop in session that will focus on;
The difference between normal ageing and possible signs of dementia
Why early diagnosis can help families and the individual affected
Common myths surrounding dementia
Life with a cognitive impairment and the importance of seeing the person behind it
How understanding and kindness can reduce the stigma
This event will be publicised and open to the wider community.
Wednesday 20th May -
A trip to Oakham treasures in Bristol for a day of reminiscence and to ignite and evoke those amazing memories that all of our fabulous residents hold. This will encourage interaction with others, all different forms of communication, enhancing those emotions and feelings.
Oakham Treasures is a family museum that has thousands of memorabilia from the kitchen to the bathroom to the outdoors and childhood.
Thursday 21st May -
A visit to the Henrietta Park, Bath for a teddy bears picnic.
Here we will enjoy a yummy picnic with foods specifically chosen by our residents, we will play ball games and each resident will be accompanied by their chosen cuddly bear. This will be a day event and will focus on family time, reminiscence, and lots of fresh air. Families and friends will also be invited to participate.
Friday 22nd May -
Morning event,
Brunel House car wash (always a popular event) open to the community. Residents will be taking part with staff, there will also be breakfast baps and refreshments for sale.
Afternoon event,
Brunel House presents ...... The Spring bikini & speedo contest!
(not quite what you are imagining....there is a little secret).
A fun event to help all relax and unwind and purely just for fun.
There will be a beach theme with nibbles and lemonade stand.
Saturday 23rd May -
Brunel House Safari Day for families, friends and Community.
There will be a BBQ, raffle, bouncy castle, games, Tropical Discoveries (live animals and creatures), and much more.
The gardens will be decorated with lush green plants, stuffed animals hiding in the tress, dinosaurs, staff and residents dressed as game keepers.
Sunday 24th May - Event is still TBC and finalised
A local motor bike group of approximately 100+ bikes will do a sponsored bike run, they will meet and greet our residents and on their return they will enjoy an intimate BBQ with our residents and the team.
