Bruno and Alek’s bike tour around Europe

Bike tour around Europe
My friend Alek and I are cycling, we estimate around 1,000 miles through France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium, and in doing so we hope to raise money and awareness for the charity Bone Cancer Research Trust. We’ll be taking a train to cover some of the journey and hoping to find accommodation along the way with friends and family and through the Church, or we’ll sleep under the stars as may be necessary!
All the money raised will go to the Bone Cancer Research Trust because my sister Eugenie was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma bone cancer last year, after enduring months of worsening leg pain which doctors couldn’t diagnose and which was only eventually diagnosed after she suffered a pathological fracture to her left femur after only a minor fall.
After 9 cycles of chemotherapy as an inpatient at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, unable to walk, Eugenie had a proximal femoral replacement at Stanmore Orthopaedic Hospital and after which she was finally able to come home, after 5 months in hospital ! Whilst re-learning to walk, she continued her chemotherapy for 5 more cycles and then had radiotherapy and is now unfortunately facing more chemotherapy, this summer, after recent scans showed that the cancer has started to grow again.
We have chosen to support the Bone Cancer Research Trust not just for their research into the causes and treatment of bone cancer for which they are a leading funder but for the trust’s awareness campaigns, which strive to improve the diagnostic experience and knowledge of the cancer amongst healthcare professionals, helping ensure that young people with possible symptoms get an immediate referral and on to the pathway designed specifically for them.
As part of our training and preparations for our Europe trip we will again be doing the British Heart Foundation - London to Brighton bike ride with my Dad, Tim and all of us proudly wearing our orange Bone Cancer Research Trust shirts!
We will just have this one Just Giving page for London to Brighton and our Europe trip so please help us support Bone Cancer Research Trust “until there is a cure” by giving what you can!
