I grew up with five brothers and two sisters, and one of my brothers had Spastic Quadriplegia, later referred to as Cerebral Palsy.

Gareth lived with me until I was 12 years old. Often, when we went out, Gareth would be in his wheelchair, and I would sit on his lap. Luckily, my family is a strong network, but from time to time, Gareth needed help with things such as specialist wheelchairs, transport, and even getting up to the first floor of our house, which was a challenge.

On occasions, my Dad would run a half marathon, pushing Gareth in his wheelchair, with both being awarded the completion medal and raising funds for the then Spastic Society (not a popular name), later renamed SCOPE. I was too young to help Dad and Gareth with raising funds for charity, but now my time has come!

There are 16 million disabled people in the UK. That’s one in four of us. Life is harder when you’re disabled.

All funds go directly towards supporting Scope’s vision of a world where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. We campaign relentlessly to create a fairer society, while providing practical and emotional advice and support to disabled people and their families when it’s needed most.
