Every 11 seconds a girl undergoes FGM.
Hello, I'm Bryony and in April 2025 I will be running the London Landmark Half-Marathon to raise money and awareness for The Vavengers. The Vavengers are a survivor, female, and migrant-led organisation commited to ending Female Genital Multilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and all other forms of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). • 230+ million women and girls are living with FMG worldwide
• 3 million girls are at risk each year
• 500,000 women are living with FGM in Europe
You can find survivors all across the world. It is mostly carried out on young girls under 16 years.
Although FGM is illegal in the UK, it is still estimated that
• 137,000+ women have been subjected to FGM
• 60,000+ girls under 15 years old are at risk
FGM has no medical justification or health benefits. It has long-term consequences for physical, sexual, and psychological health. FGM is a global issue.

FGM can be classified into 4 types:
Type I, Partial or total removal of the clitoris and/or the prepuce (clitoridectomy).
Type II, Partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora, with or without excision of the labia majora (excision).
Type III, Narrowing of the vaginal orifice with creation of a covering seal by cutting and appositioning the labia minora and/or the labia majora, with or without excision of the clitoris (infibulation).
Type IV, All other harmful procedures to the female genitalia for non-medical purposes, for example, pricking, piercing, incising, scraping and cauterization.
