Story
Last year we raised nearly £250.
This year it's personal - I got diagnosed with Breast Cancer this July. The Breast Cancer Now website is an excellent source of information and the nurses are on hand to answer questions - they're brilliant. This year I've set a higher target - please help me support the team who support around 600,000 people living with Breast Cancer in the UK.
Just look what your money goes towards providing:
£2 could help buy basic supplies for our researchers. Think tiny test tubes for detailed experiments. Or microscope slides to get a closer look at what’s causing breast cancer.
£10 could give 25 people a copy of our Diagnosed with breast cancer: What now? guide. It contains vital information for anyone who’s recently found out they have breast cancer. From talking to friends and family, to making decisions about treatment.
£20 could keep our forum running for around a day. Thousands of people affected by breast cancer use our online forum. It’s a safe, confidential space to share experiences, find information and talk with others – at any hour of the day.
£30 could help someone get vital answers by calling our free and confidential helpline. No question is too big or small, and all calls are answered by breast care nurses and trained staff.
£50 could bring one of our volunteers to a workplace or community group to talk about breast health and awareness, including screening and risk factors. Knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer can encourage people to check their breasts regularly, and report any new or unusual changes to a GP.
£100 could bring an expert speaker to a Younger Women Together event. These events are a space for women aged 18 to 45 to meet others who understand, and get tailored support on topics like relationships, exercise and fertility.
£1,000 could contribute to the cost of holding an event in parliaments across the UK. Where we can speak to decision-makers about the improvements needed in diagnosis, treatment and care and bring them face to face with people affected by breast cancer.
£10,000 could pay for over 5 working weeks of lab-based research. Research is key to a future where everyone with breast cancer lives, and is supported to live well. Every week in the lab can help bring about that future.
£16,000 could keep the Breast Cancer Now Biobank open for around 1 working week. It’s full of samples of breast cancer tissue and it’s a crucial resource for our researchers. Using real tissue, they can make breakthroughs faster and find new ways to prevent and treat breast cancer, to stop the disease taking lives.
£68,0000 could fund a senior post-doctoral scientist for around a year. That’s a researcher who’s completed their PhD and is working on becoming a future leader in breast cancer research. Their expertise and skills are crucial in the research projects we fund.
