Story

My name is Bridget and I have been living with a high grade aggressive Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumour (who I call 'Trevor') since 2019.

I have decided to fundraise for The Brain Tumour Charity by holding a coffee morning on Sunday the 18th February 2024 at The Dynamo House Cafe at Bestwood Country Park, Park Road, Bestwood Village, Nottingham NG6 8TQ.

The event will run from 10am until 1pm.

There will be an opportunity to purchase Tea and Coffee for 50p per cup and home made cake for £1 per slice

There will also be regular Tombola draws held, giving prizes to lucky winners!!

Following my initial surgery, I have undergone radiotherapy and several cycles of chemotherapy, along with a 2nd brain surgery in July last year. The effects of the treatment and steroid medication that I have had to be on for the past few years have been debilitating. I, alongside other brain tumour patients have to cope with a lot whilst facing a terrifying uncertainty about what the future holds.

When I was first diagnosed, I was disappointed to read about the level of funding being spent on brain tumour research in the UK. Over £700 million is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet , less than 3% is spent on brain tumours and brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.

This needs to change massively in order to give brain tumour patients a better survival rate.

At the current rate of spending, it could take 100 years for brain cancer to catch up with developments in other diseases and find a cure.

This is why charities such as The Brain Tumour Charity rely heavily on donations from the public to continue funding their research and to help brain tumour patients in their fight against this awful disease.

Please help by donating any spare money that you can to this fundraiser. If you are able to attend the coffee morning on the day itself, please let me know by no later than Friday 2nd February so that I can make sure that there will be enough cake to go round!

For now, my fight against Trevor continues. He has unfortunately reared his ugly head again and I am having further chemotherapy over the next few months to kick him to the kerb! I have always said that I am Wonder Woman and dealing with what I have had thrown at me for the past 4 years has proved it. Linda Carter and Gal Gadot have nothing on me!! So I am keeping my Golden Tiara on and I continue my fight back!

Thank you in advance for your donation. Further photos of my preparation for the coffee morning will be coming soon
